HARDWARE - CDR100

The Yamaha CDR100 was a virtual standard when it cames to early high-speed CD-R drives. This internal drive was the first 4X-read/4X-write drive on the market and appears in a variety of VARs' products, including jukeboxes and arrays. Unlike most bundles that include the drive sold by third parties, Yamaha does not add any software or SCSI adapters. You get the drive and a manual. Yamaha reports that VARs and retailers often bundled software before selling the product to the end user.

The Yamaha CDR100 overall is a well-designed drive with a few minor shortcomings. Its popularity means that drivers are available with all the major software packages.

Firmware
The Firmware for the Yamaha CDR100PC is stored on EPROM ICs, which are no longer an inventoried item. There have not been any new Firmware upgrades for this drive in a number of years, therefore it is likely the drive is already utilizing the latest version.

* Firmware/BIOS v1.12 (06/17/96) is the latest/last BIOS upgrade
