Thinking about leaving school before year 12? There are many reasons why some students decide to leave school before year 12, but leaving early can cause a lot of problems if you haven't thought it through. This section will tell you about the policy facts that relate to leaving school early, to help you and other students make informed decisions and take part in making school policies about these issues.
Should I stay or should I go?
Once you have reached the legal age for leaving school (in Victoria this is 15 years), you have the choice of staying at school or leaving before you finish year 12.
For some students, leaving school early is not even an option, especially if you want to go to uni or want a job that requires employees to complete Year 12.
If you're thinking of leaving school early, you might not be sure about what could happen next. You might have some clear reasons for wishing to leave school, but have not considered what finishing could do for you.
Although many secondary school students aren't sure about what choices are available to them when they leave school and what they might be interested in doing, finishing Year 12 can definitely help keep your options open.
