| INTRODUCTION
Education policies are statements that shape
the way education happens – at your school and for whole
systems of schools. They are mainly geared towards you, the
student, and aim to improve the quality of your life. More
often than not, the effects of policies are invisible, even
though almost every aspect of your school is the result of
policy agreements.
You would probably never have guessed some of the areas that
policy affects, such as:
At the school level:
- Student/ staff welfare
- Student/ staff conduct – rights
and responsibilities
- School goals
- Curriculum content and implementation
- Assessment
- Environment
- Enrolment
- Funding and resources
- The role of parents in schools
- Legal matters
On a broader level, education policy can
shape:
- Social justice and equality:
Inclusion and exclusion – who is to be educated and
which schools get the money.
- The economy:
How schools are preparing students for the workforce.
- Society:
How schools are preparing you for Life!
